The famed and legendary ‘Precious Wentletrap’ from Western Pacific deep waters.
Ever popular due to it’s wonderful shape and structure, this shell was at one time a great rarity – so much so that it is said that enterprising Oriental craftsmen supposedly made rice-flour paste counterfeits. The fraud was only detected when the shell was washed and fell apart !
It is doubtful that any of these so called fakes have ever been discovered or appeared in any collection – to date !
Approx sizes from 3.5 cm to 4cm Small, but beautifully formed ! There will be one or two tiny chips on the verticle ribs of the shells but these do not detract in any way from otherwise lovely specimens.
